Fall Colors Tour to La Posada & Flagstaff

The fifth annual "Fall Colors" overnighter driving tour is scheduled this year for late October. This time we will change it up, spending the first night at the historic La Posada Hotel in Winslow. The next day, we will drive to Flagstaff, with visits to Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monument on the way to the 4-Diamond Little America Hotel.

We will leave on Wednesday from Scottsdale, taking a drive up the Beeline Hwy to Sip at 5600, where we will stop for lunch in the beautiful settiing in the pines on the Mogollon Rim.

After lunch, we will continue on to Winslow, for an overnight stay at the charming, historic La Posada Hotel.

After we arrive, there will be time for socializing and exploring the hotel before we meet for dinner in the renowned Turquoise Room, "considered by many to be the finest restaurant in the Four Corners Region." The Turquoise Room serves regional contemporary Southwestern Cuisine — with a tribute to the great days of the Fred Harvey Company. You will pay your own check at dinner.

On Thursday, most of us will enjoy the unique and delicious breakfast offerings at the Turquose Room before we head out on I-40 toward Flagstaff. As we approach the city, will will detour off the freeway and head to Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. After some time exploring the almost alien landscape surrounding the crater, we will continue on a nice drive from Sunset Crater to Wupatki National Monument, where we will visit the very well-preserved ancestral Puebloan sites.

After visiting Wupatki we will make our way to Flagstaff and the Little America Hotel. After checking in, an impromptu happy hour is sure to break out at the Silver Pine Restaurant & Bar. Later, we will meet for dinner in the restaurant; we will enjoy the full menu and pay our own checks.

Guessing when the fall colors will come out has been a crap shoot over the years when we have run this event, but hopefully we'll experience beautiful fall colors during our stay at the hotels in Winslow and Flagstaff. Your return to the Valley on Friday is at your option. You may wish to stay a while and explore other sites in and around Flagstaff before returning home, or you could even choose to to spend another night in the beautiful setting at the Little America Hotel.

You will make your own room reservations at the two hotels --

La Posada Hotel (Wed, Oct 28): There is no special rate for our group. Rates start at $189+ tax. A link to the hotel booking page will be provided in the confirmation messages you will receive when you complete registration in MotorsportReg.

Little America (Thu, Oct 29) Arrangements have been made for a room block at a special rate of only $89 per night + tax. Instructions on how to register with the discounted rate will be provided in the confirmation messages you will receive when you complete registration in MotorsportReg. You must reserve your room no later than September 29 to be assured of getting a room at the group rate. After that, rooms may be reserved at the group rate based on availibility.

Please note that, though there is no registration fee for this event, pursuant to official club policy event cancellations after October 15 and "no-shows" will be subject to a $25 cancellation fee per person.
